Season of Sharing gives mother of three confidence that she can ‘survive next week’

For the last seven years, Angelica Solivan’s job has been to help families in North Port find support through programs as a social worker.

She never thought she would find herself in need of those same community support services one day.

Once the COVID-19 pandemic began to shutter businesses and schools, the day she would need to ask for help came not long after. As a caseworker to 17 families, Solivan said it was as if she forgot she could be eligible for help, too.

Through a combined sum from Season of Sharing and federal CARES Act dollars, Solivan was able to pay three months of rent in June, July and September and a Florida Power & Light bill. The help allowed her a break from the constant worrying, she said, after nearly six months of wondering how she could financially get by for another month.

“I was able to breathe a little bit. I felt like I was drowning, and I was able to put my head just a little bit above water,” Solivan said.
