The State Housing Initiatives Partnership Disaster Assistance program provides assistance to low-income households following a disaster. In response to Hurricane Ian, the Charlotte County Disaster Assistance Program opened at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 and will remain open while funds are available.
SHIP disaster funds can be used to meet needs not covered by insurance and/or FEMA such as:
• insurance deductibles for rehabilitation of homes covered under homeowners' insurance
• temporary or permanent relocation assistance
• debris removal and/or interim repairs to prevent further damage when no charitable organizations are available to perform the work for free
• other disaster-related unmet needs
Other sources of disaster funds and access to long term housing recovery programs may also be available.
Proof of U.S. citizenship (or legal alien status) and full-time and permanent Charlotte County residency is required. Subject property must be a primary residence. Income eligibility restrictions apply.
